Matthias Seestern-Pauly (born February 28, 1984 in Osnabrück ) is a German politician ( FDP ) from Bad Iburg and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017 .

He graduated from high school in Bad Iburg in 2004 with an Abitur and then completed his community service. From 2006 to 2011, Seestern-Pauly studied teaching in Osnabrück and Vechta . He completed his studies with a Master of Education in German and History. During his studies he received a scholarship from the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation for Freedom . In addition, worked from 2004 until his move to the board of the Deutsche Bundesbank at the beginning of 2010 in the constituency office of the Bundestag member Carl-Ludwig Thiele ( FDP ). After his legal clerkship, he worked as a teacher at the grammar school Ursulaschule Osnabrück since 2014 .

Seestern-Pauly is married and has two sons.

Political career

Seestern-Pauly joined the Young Liberals in 2002. A year later he joined the FDP, whose parliamentary group he has been in the Bad Iburg City Council since 2006. Furthermore, he has been chairman of the FDP / CDW group in the district council of the Osnabrück district since 2011 and chairman of the FDP district association Osnabrück-Land since 2016.

Seestern-Pauly has been a member of the state board of the FDP Lower Saxony since 2010 .

In the 2017 federal election , Seestern-Pauly entered the 19th German Bundestag via the state list for the FDP Lower Saxony .

In the Bundestag , Seestern-Pauly is a member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and is chairman of the Free Democrats' parliamentary group . He has been chairman of the Children's Commission since February 1, 2020 . He is also a deputy member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment .

Within his parliamentary group, he is the child and youth policy spokesman in the German Bundestag.
