Carl-Ludwig Thiele

Carl-Ludwig Thiele (born August 9, 1953 in Münster ) is a German lawyer and former politician ( FDP ). From May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2018, he was a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank . As a member of the Management Board, he is responsible for the areas of cash as well as payment transactions and processing systems.

Before that he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 2010. From 2002 to 2010 he was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1972 at the Carolinum high school in Osnabrück , Thiele completed his military service to study law in Erlangen and Münster , which he completed with the first state examination in law. 1980 to 1982 he completed his legal clerkship and passed his second state examination in law. He has been admitted to the bar since 1983.

Thiele is a founding member of the Association for the Promotion of the New Social Market Economy Initiative . He was also a member of the BaFin Board of Directors and is the curator of the "Finances and Taxes" institute in Berlin. In Münster he is a member of the AV Zollern in the CV.

Carl-Ludwig Thiele is married and has five children.

Political party

He has been a member of the FDP since 1979. From 1983 to 2010 he was deputy chairman of the Osnabrück-Stadt district association and from 1988 chairman of the Osnabrück FDP district association. In addition, he had been a member of the executive FDP state board of Lower Saxony since 1988 and was deputy from 2002 to 2010. State Chairman. From May 1999 to May 2001 he was Federal Treasurer of the FDP. From 1994 to April 2010 he was also a member of the FDP federal executive committee.

MP

From 1990 to April 2010 Thiele was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Budget Committee . From 1994 he was a member of the finance committee, where he was chairman of the finance committee from 1994 to 1998 and its deputy chairman from 1998 to 2005. From October 2002 to April 2010 he was also deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group . In addition, from November 2009 to April 2010, Thiele was the financial policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group. From 1994 until he left the Bundestag he was a member of the mediation committee.

Thiele has always entered the German Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list; in the last three federal parliamentary elections as Lower Saxony's FDP top candidate .

In May 2010, Thiele renounced his parliamentary mandate to move to the board of the Deutsche Bundesbank. There he heads Division III at the headquarters of the Deutsche Bundesbank and thus holds one of the most important offices.

Thiele is a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Finance and Taxes, Berlin; Member of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, Osnabrück; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Law and Finance Foundation, Frankfurt; and member of the INSM (Initiative New Social Market Economy).

Honors

  • 2012: Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany. He received this honor for his numerous voluntary commitments and his outstanding political activities. Above all, Thiele's commitment to strengthening families through the reorganization of the family benefit equalization and the increase in child benefit was honored. Thiele's suggestion was to merge child benefit with the child tax allowance and to regulate it as negative income tax. This enabled the child benefit to be increased from DM 70 at the time to DM 200. In particular, those in work with a low income and several children were significantly better off. In addition, the intergroup initiative launched by Thiele to set up a memorial to the construction and fall of the Berlin Wall at the Brandenburg Gate, which was unanimously approved by the German Bundestag, was honored. As a result, documentation on this topic was installed in the Brandenburger Tor underground station and the funds for the Bernauerstraße memorial were increased significantly.
