Matthias Winzen
Matthias Winzen (* 1961 in Cologne ) is a German art historian and professor of art theory at the Saar College of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken . He is also director of the Museum for Art and Technology of the 19th Century LA8 in Baden-Baden .
Life
Matthias Winzen was born in Cologne-Porz in 1961 and initially studied sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1982 to 1987 under Alfonso Hüppi , whose master class he became. After studying in New York City , he began studying art history, German literature and education at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1988 .
From 1995 he worked as a project manager for fine arts in the Siemens cultural program. After receiving his doctorate in 1996, he then took up teaching positions at the art academies in Munich and Düsseldorf and at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from 1998 . He also held a substitute professorship at the Kassel Art College .
From 1999 to 2005 Winzen was director of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden , and since 2009 he has headed the Museum for Art and Technology of the 19th Century LA8 in Baden-Baden.
