Career

Matti Kuparinen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Ässät Pori , for whose professional team he was active from 2003 to 2011 in the SM-liiga , the top Finnish league. With Ässät Pori he reached the playoff final in the SM-liiga in the 2005/06 season , but failed in this due to HPK Hämeenlinna . From 2007 to 2011 the center was team captain at Ässät.

For the 2011/12 season, Kuparinen moved within the SM-liiga to KalPa Kuopio . There he began the following season before he was committed in October 2012 by HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League for two years. After two seasons there, the attacker returned to his home club Ässät in April 2015 and was team captain there in the following years.

In the early summer of 2018 he left Pori and moved to HC Bozen in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga after playing in a row with Marco Insam the year before , who had also returned to HCB. He ended his career in September 2019.
