Matthias Wikström (born January 28, 1973 in Skellefteå ) is a former German - Swedish ice hockey player (striker).

Career

Wikström started his career at his hometown club, Skellefteå AIK . There he played until 1996 before he moved to Germany, where he first went on the ice for two seasons at Grefrather EC in the first division. In 1998 he moved to EC Peiting , for which he played a total of 5 years in the 2nd division, the upper division and the regional division. In 2003, Wikström was looking for a new challenge and decided to switch to Moskitos Essen , which he led as captain and top scorer for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. For the 2004/05 season he moved with his Essen storm colleagues Dorian Anneck and Michael Kreitl to the newcomers Lausitzer Füchse . Wikström played for the Füchse for 2 years in the 2nd Bundesliga before moving to DEL relegated EHC Wolfsburg in 2006 . With the Wolfsburg team he was able to return to the top German league. Wikström extended his contract with the EHC and began the 2007/08 season in the DEL, where he did not fill a contingent position after his naturalization. But after just a few games, he asked for his contract to be terminated and moved back to the 2nd division for SC Riessersee, where he signed a two-year contract. In 2009 he ended his career there.
