The Mattwaldhorn ( 3246  m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Weissmies group in the Valais Alps . West about a kilometer away is the Simelihorn ( 3124  m above sea level. M. , 638 875  /  116544 ), which is connected to the Mattwaldhorn by a ridge, and is not particularly independently. Until 1987, the Mattwaldhorn was referred to as the Simelihorn and the Simelihorn as the Galenhorn on the Swiss national map . The peaks are to the east above the Saas Valley , Eisten is just under four kilometers from the Simelihorn.

Mattwaldhorn and Simelihorn are not glaciated. Together with the Böshorn ( 3268  m above sea level ) to the east, they are the northernmost three-thousand-meter peaks in the Weissmies group. The Mattwaldhorn is separated from the Böshorn by the uppermost part of the Nanztal . They are very rarely climbed compared to the group's prominent peaks. Various easy routes lead on Mattwaldhorn and Simelihorn, but most of them are pathless. The view mainly includes the Mischabel group , the Bernese Alps and the Fletschhorn .
