Eisten, Saas Valley (1918)

Eisten ( Valais German : Eischtu ) is a political municipality and a civic community in the Visp district and a parish of the Visp deanery in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

geography

Eisten is located at the entrance to the Saas Valley and consists of 22 individual hamlets, 14 of which are inhabited all year round. The village hall, the multi-purpose hall, the fire station, the civil defense and park are in the hamlet of Zen-Schmieden. It forms the center of the community.

To prevent emigration and to keep young residents alive, the community built a number of rental apartments that are typically rare in mountain villages near the parish and school buildings. In 2020, a new multi-family house was planned in the hamlet of Eyen, unlike in other areas it was completely lifted by the municipality, and housing subsidy regulations were introduced in 2018: the municipality paid up to a maximum of 40,000 francs for renovations for their own use or for renting old ones Houses.
