Location of the municipality

Embd ( Valais German : AEMD ) is a municipality and a civic community of the district Visp and a parish of the deanery Visp of the German-speaking part canton of Valais in Switzerland .

geography

Embd lies in the front part of the Mattertal .

The place can be reached by a narrow street from Stalden and by the aerial cableway from Kalpetran .

Name customer

Their name is derived from the Old High German Amat , which means something like the second hay cut .

Kalpetran quartzite

In the village of Embd, a green slab of quartzite was commercially mined on Wäng from 1945 to 1993 , which has a prominent role in regional architecture . He is also after his place of loading Kalpetran , a district of Embd and stop on the Brig-Visp-Zermatt , as Kalpetranquarzit known. The first concessionaire was the mountain guide and entrepreneur Erwin Lochmatter .

Hiking and mountaineering

The Moosalp – Junge high-altitude trail can be reached via the hamlet of Schalb .
