Matucana tuberculata is a species of plant in the genus Matucana from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tuberculatus comes from Latin , means 'humped' and refers to the humped ribs of the shoots.

description

Matucana tuberculata grows with spherical to ovoid, bright green shoots that branch out from the base or above and reach heights of up to 10 centimeters with diameters of 4 to 7 centimeters. There are 14 to 18 wide straight or slightly twisted ribs , which are divided into conical cusps. The straight thorns are white to yellow. The one to four central spines have a darker tip and are 1 to 2 centimeters long. The eight to twelve radial spines reach a length of 0.5 to 1 centimeter.

The straight to curved, orange-red flowers are 5 to 5.5 centimeters long and 3.5 to 4 centimeters in diameter. Your bracts are bordered purple. The spherical, reddish brown or green fruits reach a diameter of up to 6 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Matucana tuberculata is common in the Peruvian region of La Libertad in the valley of the Río Marañón at altitudes of 1,800 to 2,400 meters.

It was first described as Borzicactus tuberculatus in 1979 by John Donald Donald . Rob Bregman and his co-authors put the species in 1987 in the genus Matucana .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
