Matuzalém , actually Matuzalém Francelino Da Silva , (born June 10, 1980 in Natal , Brazil ) is a Brazilian football player . He is 1.75 m tall and is considered a classic playmaker .

Athletic career

Matuzalém began his career in 1997 at EC Vitória in Brazil. After two strong seasons, he decided to move to Europe, to the Swiss first division club AC Bellinzona . But after only three months, the Italian club SSC Napoli became interested and signed the player for the coming season.

Other clubs in Italy followed by 2004, such as B. Piacenza Calcio , for which he was on the field in the 2001/02 season or Brescia Calcio , where he made his breakthrough.

In the summer of 2004, Matuzalém moved to the Ukrainian top club Shakhtar Donetsk for a transfer fee of eight million euros , the contract period was five years. In 2007 he wanted to end the engagement prematurely for family reasons, but Schachtar rejected an offer from US Palermo for seven million US dollars. Instead, he was signed by Real Zaragoza without the consent of the Ukrainians and first loaned to Lazio Rome in 2008 and resold in 2009 for 14 million euros. Schachtar demanded 25 million euros as compensation from Matuzalém and Real Saragossa, citing a contractual penalty agreed with Matuzalem, after the failure of an agreement, the club sued both before the International Court of Justice (CAS) with the support of FIFA . In May 2009, the CAS awarded Schachtar a total of 11.9 million euros. In view of the fact that Matuzalém was unable to raise the amount, FIFA threatened him with a professional ban if he did not pay within 90 days, which the Federal Supreme Court declared to be fundamentally illegal as a serious interference with personal rights.
