Maurice-Jean-Joseph Abadie (born March 11, 1877 in Sorbets , Département Gers , † 1948 ) was a French Général de division .

Life

Abadie completed training as an army officer and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 25, 1918 after various posts . In 1920 he became commander of the Colonial Marching Regiment of the Levant Army ( Armée du Levant ) and thus also commander of the Northern Zone of the Levant . He then assumed the position as commander of the 16 e régiment of tirailleurs sénégalais and was then 1922-1923 instructor at the training center of infantry (Center d'Etudes de l'infantry) , before 1924 in the Senegal returned and until 1925 the commander of 3 .  battalionthe Tirailleurs sénégalais and at the same time commander of the Niger subdivision .

After his promotion to colonel (Colonel) in September 1925, Abadie was head of the training section in the advisory council of the colonial troops (Troupes coloniales) from 1926 to 1929 and was then promoted to Général de brigade on February 14, 1930 . As such he was seconded to the 1st Senegal Brigade and was then its commander from 1931 to 1934. His last position was from October 1938 until his retirement on March 11, 1939, in command of the Sousse - Kairouan subdivision in Tunisia.

Two days after the start of the Second World War , Abadie was ordered back into active military service on September 3, 1939 and became commander of the 61st Infantry Division (61 e division d'infanterie) , with which he took part in the campaign in the west . After he was then from November 21 to December 1, 1939 at special disposal, he was from December 1, 1939 to August 7, 1940 Commander in Chief of the French West Africa Army Group. On January 22, 1941, he was given leave of absence and finally retired on July 7, 1941.
