Maurice Andréossi

Maurice Andréossi (* 1866 in Bergamo ; † 1931 in Geneva ), also written Andreossi , was a photographer and the founder of the first cinema in Switzerland .

After studying chemistry in Geneva, Andréossi opened a photo studio in the city, which he closed again in 1895 to open a diorama in the same year . From 1896 he showed films that he bought when he visited the Lumière brothers in Lyon . From these he also bought a projection apparatus. The first film screening took place on October 25, 1886 in the former café-restaurant on the corner of Rue du Vieux-Billard and Avenue du Mail in Geneva.

In May 1899 the cinema had to close its doors and Andréossi turned back to photography.
