Live and act

Maurice Ropraz, Catholic, is the son of Désiré Ropraz, master cheese maker and founder of the milk processing company Milco SA, and Claudine nee. Perritaz. The Ropraz family has been based in Sorens for many generations . She is the owner of Milco SA and is involved in politics. Désiré Ropraz was Ammann von Sorens for 28 years and sat on the Grand Council for 30 years . Maurice's brothers, Eric and Stéphane, also held the office of Syndic von Sorens. Maurice Ropraz is single.

After six years of primary school in Sorens and three years of orientation school (progymnasiale department) in Bulle FR , Maurice Ropraz attended the Collège du Sud, from which he graduated with the Matura type E (economics). He then studied law at the University of Freiburg and obtained his legal license in 1989 . After internships at banks and law firms, he was admitted to the bar in 1993. He completed his training with language stays in London, Cologne, Berlin and Innsbruck. From 1993 to 2001 he ran a law firm in Bulle and Châtel-Saint-Denis .

Maurice Ropraz is a member of the Société de musique in Sorens, which he took over as head, the Kiwanis Club de la Gruyère and the Confrérie du Gruyère.

He was active in the Liberal Democratic Party and led its youth movement in the Gruyère region. Active in the Grand Council since 1993, he ran for the upper office of the Gruyère district in 2001 and prevailed in the second ballot against the CVP candidate Yves Menoud , the then bailiff of La Tour-de-Trême and - after the merger - von Bulle. From 2002 to 2011 he worked as a senior bailiff at a time when the district and its main town had grown rapidly both economically and in terms of population.

At the FDP delegate assembly, which Markus Ith had put up as a candidate, Maurice Ropraz applied for the State Council office in 2011. In addition to their political opponents, the two had to compete against the dissident bailiff of Estavayer-le-Lac , Albert Bachmann , who was not elected by his party and who stood for election as an independent. While Markus Ith was defeated in this internal dispute, Maurice Ropraz achieved a good result in the first ballot. Thanks to a mutual and exclusive declaration of support by the Christian Democrats and Liberals, a center-right majority could be formed against the left-wing alliance, which has won three seats. Maurice Ropraz was elected with a considerable lead over the SVP candidate, with three Christian Democrats taking the first three places thanks to the aforementioned agreement. When the State Council directorates were distributed, Maurice Ropraz was given the spatial planning, environment and building directorate.
