Mauricio Peña (born November 11, 1959 in Mexico City , † August 31, 2010 in Querétaro , Querétaro ) was a Mexican football player who mainly played in midfield .

career

Peña began his active career with his hometown club UNAM Pumas , with whom he won the Mexican football championship in his first season in 1980/81 . He also won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup twice (1980 and 1982) and the Copa Interamericana once (1981) with the Pumas .

In 1987 he moved to city ​​rivals Necaxa , where he ended his active career in 1991.

From 1993 to 1998 Peña worked as a trainer in the puma youth division and from 1998 to 2008 he held the same position at Santos Laguna . Mauricio Peña fell ill with Lou Gehrig syndrome and died in 2010 as a result of the disease.
