The Mauritius Church is a Protestant church in Leimen in the Rhein-Neckar district in the north-west of Baden-Württemberg .

history

In 791 Leimen was first mentioned in a document in the Lorsch Codex . In 1303 the church set was sold to the Andreasstift in Worms . In the Worms Synodale , a visit report of the parishes in the Worms diocese , the church patron St. Mauritius was mentioned for the first time in 1496 . In 1556, Elector Ottheinrich introduced the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate .

The lower masonry of the choir tower probably dates back to the 13th century. The sacristy vault dates from the 15th century. During the Dutch War , the Mauritius Church was burned down by the French in 1674, after which the nave was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1684. In 1783 and 1932 the church was enlarged.

The Mauritius Church is in the center of Leimen within the old city walls. It is a single-nave choir tower church . Outside there are two grave slabs from 1599 and 1736. Gothic paintings have been preserved in the choir window reveals .

The organ was built in 1974 by the company Eberhard Friedrich Walcker . The instrument has 25 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The organ's prospectus comes from the previous instrument of the Stumm brothers from 1788. The ringing consists of three bells , which were cast in 1470, 1510 and 1951.
