Mauritius Church in Obereisesheim

The Mauritius Church in Obereisesheim , a district of Neckarsulm in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a Protestant parish church .

The origins of the Mauritius Church in Obereisesheim probably go back to the 11th century, although there are hardly any remains of the previous building. The current church is mentioned in the Worms Synodal Book of 1496. There it is noted that the church dedicated to St. Mauritius and his companions, the martyrs of the Theban Legion , was consecrated. Around the 11th century, the Franks brought devotion to St. Mauritius to what is now southern Germany, which is why it is assumed that a Franconian nobleman founded the Mauritius Church in Obereisesheim.

The tower towering in the west is considered to be the oldest part of the building from the late Gothic period . The nave of the church, which faces east with the altar area , was extensively renovated in 1601, which is also remembered by the year above the main portal. The choir has three ogival tracery windows . The pulpit , which probably dates from the time the present church was built, is on the east side. The organ on the west gallery was built in 1861 by the Carl Schäfer workshop from Heilbronn and renewed in 1978. On the gallery you can see pictures of the apostles by the painter Johannes Stiegler , who worked in the central Neckar area around 1725. The middle choir window shows twelve-part stained glass decorations by Adolf Saile from 1977. Today's Mauritius Church has three bells . The oldest of these was cast by Johann Daniel Rohr in Heilbronn in 1722 . Two more bells were made in 1956 by the Bachert bell foundry in Bad Friedrichshall- Kochendorf to replace bells that were melted down during World War II .
