Maurus Reinkowski

Maurus Reinkowski (born June 30, 1962 in Altötting ) is a German scholar of Islam .

Life

He studied at the universities of Munich , Boğaziçi Üniversitesi and Vienna . After receiving his doctorate in 1995 at the University of Bamberg on historiographical interpretations of late Ottoman Palestine, he then had a one-year fellowship at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, two years as a lecturer at the Orient Institute in Istanbul (1996–1998) and assistant in Bamberg . After his habilitation in 2002 on Ottoman reform policy in the 19th century, he held the chair for Islamic studies and the history of the Islamic peoples at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 2004 to 2010 (2008-2010 Senior Fellow at the School of History, Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies ). He has been Professor of Islamic Studies in Basel since 2010 . In autumn 2015 he was visiting professor at Sabancı University .

His research interests are recent and recent history of the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
