The Max-Planck-Gymnasium Karlsruhe is a high school in the Karlsruhe district of Rüppurr . It is named after the scientist Max Planck and is characterized primarily by its art profile.
history
After the children of the Rüppurr district had formed their own class at the secondary school in Ettlingen together with the children from Dammerstock , the parents from the districts founded an initiative to found a secondary school. In 1951 it was decided to build the school, in 1953 the groundbreaking ceremony followed and in 1954 the first part of the wing was occupied. The building was then completed in two further construction phases by 1958. The gym followed in 1965, and the first extension five years later. An auditorium , which was planned from the beginning, was handed over to the school in 1991. At the end of 2016, the new atrium was inaugurated, which was created through the expansion of the H-building. The extension offers six more classrooms and an elevator, making the school almost barrier-free.
profile
The Max-Planck-Gymnasium offers a scientific , a linguistic and, as the only school in Karlsruhe, an art profile. Students in the classes with an art profile take art from the eighth grade as a major subject relevant to promotion. The first foreign language (from grade five) is English , the second (from grade six) French or Latin , and as a third foreign language (from grade eight), Spanish or French is also added.
Working groups
Under the motto “Music is in the air”, various music working groups rehearse and present their results over the course of the school year: big band , lower school choir , instrumental group and extra choir . Since 1989 there has been a permanent theater group at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium , which appears annually with a freely chosen play. The proceeds from the performances were used, among other things, for the technical expansion and expansion of the auditorium of the Max Planck Gymnasium. There were and are a large number of other working groups, currently e.g. B. a volleyball club and a garden club .
Student exchange
The Max Planck maintains a regular exchange with schools in Bar-le-Duc ( France ), Birmingham ( England ) and Valencia ( Spain ).
