Max Planck Institute for research into living conditions in the scientific and technical world
The Max Planck Institute for research into the living conditions of the scientific and technical world was an institute of the Max Planck Society in Starnberg . It was founded in 1970 when the physicist and philosopher Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker was appointed director. Another director was the philosopher Jürgen Habermas . The institute was located at Riemerschmidstrasse 7 in Starnberg.
history
The institute devoted itself to numerous social science disciplines, such as war prevention , development policy , the philosophy of science and social policy . For example, the term “New International Division of Labor”, a forerunner of the globalization discussion, was coined here (by Folker Fröbel, Jürgen Heinrichs, Otto Kreye ).
Employees who became known later include Alfred Mechtersheimer , Ernst Tugendhat , Wolfgang van den Daele , Wolfgang Krohn , the peace researcher Horst Afheldt , the co-editor of the course book , Tilman Spengler , the political scientist Wolf Schäfer , the economist Stefan Welzk and the philosophers Michael Drieschner and Gernot Böhme .
After Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker retired in 1980, the institute was renamed the Max Planck Institute for the Social Sciences and was to be restructured. Due to increasing difficulties, Jürgen Habermas resigned as director in April 1981, whereupon the Senate of the Max Planck Society decided on May 22, 1981 to close the MPI for the Social Sciences, which happened in 1984.
