The sea rescue boat (SRB) Max Carstensen was the last boat built in the so-called 7-meter class of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). The internal name was KRST 28. The manufacturer of the boat was the Schweers shipyard in Bardenfleth .

Although assigned to the 7 meter class, this boat differed from most of the other units in this class because it was identical in construction to the first daughter boats of the 23 meter class sea rescue cruisers (Eiswette class).

Naming

The boat was named in honor of the DGzRS foreman Max Carstensen from Keitum on Sylt , who had a fatal accident in 1971 during a mission.

Technical Equipment

The lifeboat was equipped with radio systems, echo sounder , radar , GPS , external bilge pump and a rescue port.

Stationings

The first station for commissioning in May 1981 was Horumersiel . From there it was relocated to Zinnowitz on Usedom on May 5, 1999 . The boat remained there until it was decommissioned in March 2002. After being taken out of service, it was sold in private hands.

Whereabouts

In 2006 the Max Carstensen is still fully functional and is located in Hamburg. It has been restored in its original condition, only the SAR mark on the fuselage is no longer present for legal reasons.
