Max Collie
John Maxwell "Max" Collie (born February 21, 1931 in Melbourne ; † January 6, 2018 ) was an Australian musician ( trombone , also vocals ) and band leader of Dixieland Jazz .
Collie played in his hometown Melbourne since 1948 with his own band, which was joined by musicians from Graeme Bell in 1952 . In 1962 he went on a European tour with the Melbourne New Orleans Jazz Band for a year and then settled in England. Shortly thereafter, he took over the management of the London City Stompers . In 1966 he founded his own Rhythm Aces , which presented their first album in 1971, in which Cy Laurie was involved. The band won a World Jazz Championship in 1975 against fourteen North American traditional jazz bands . With the Rhythm Aces , which continued to tour regularly in Europe and several times in the United States and have been seen on television shows, he has made numerous publications. The singers Marilyn Middleton Pollock and Pauline Pearce also performed with the band at times . In the field of jazz he was involved in 53 recording sessions between 1963 and 2001.
