Max Fischer (politician, 1927)

Max Fischer (born May 6, 1927 in Altenmarkt near Cham ; † July 11, 2015 ) was a German politician of the CSU .

Fischer became particularly well known for his commitment to improving Bavaria's relations with Czechoslovakia during the Cold War .

Life

Max Fischer was born the son of a farmer and, after graduating from high school, first studied economics at the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg and then law and political science in Heidelberg and Munich , where he also passed both state law exams. He also graduated from the administration academy in Speyer. Fischer received his doctorate as Dr. jur. on the subject of the dual position of the Bavarian district administrator . He worked for the Bayerische Versicherungsbank in Munich for five years .

Fischer was a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Rupertia Regensburg and KDStV Trifels Munich in the Cartell Association .

Political career

Fischer had been a CSU member since 1945.

In 1959, Fischer was elected district administrator in Cham and remained so until 1972. He also remained from 1959 to 1987 as district chairman of the CSU in Cham, where he was also city ​​councilor and district councilor .

Fischer was personally committed to relaxation and contacts in the Bavarian- Czechoslovak border area, which earned him the nickname of Bavaria's secret foreign minister . From 1964 to 1978 he chaired the Grenzland Working Group .

From 1962 on, Fischer represented his constituency in Cham in the Bavarian state parliament , where in 1970 he took over the chairmanship of the committee for state budget and financial issues.

In May 1977, in the course of the cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Alfons Goppel, he became State Secretary in the Ministry for Regional Development and Environmental Issues.

In 1986 Fischer left the cabinet and resigned from the Bavarian state parliament in the same year.

In 2009, Fischer caused a fatal traffic accident with his car.

family

Fischer was a Catholic and had been married to Hilde Fischer, née Müßig, since 1956. He had a son and a daughter.

Awards

In 1971 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit . In 1978 the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany followed, later the Great Cross of Merit with a star and shoulder ribbon.
