Max Hess (born October 15, 1825 in Munich , † July 19, 1868 in Lippspringe ) was a German decoration and history painter .

Hess received training in his father Peter Hess' studio in Munich around 1847 . Like his brother Eugen , he went to Paris around 1851. There he was a student in Charles Gleyre's studio . After 1851, Hess was based in Düsseldorf , a member of the Malkasten artists' association , and worked for the Eduard Schulte art salon . Hess received u. a. Painting commissions from Prince Karl Anton von Hohenzollern .
