Max Illingworth (born November 5, 1992 in Sydney ) is an Australian chess player .
In 2009 he finished third at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in Singapore . He won the Australian individual championship twice: 2014 and 2018. He also won the Oceania Chess Championships twice: 2015 and 2019. He played for Australia in four Chess Olympiads : 2012 to 2018 .
At the Chess World Cup 2015 he failed in the first round to Pentala Harikrishna .
In 2012 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). He was awarded the title of Grand Master (GM) in 2014. He has held the title of FIDE trainer since 2014 .
He was honored with the Steiner Medal three times (2011, 2013 and 2015).
