Zhao Zong-Yuan ( Chinese 赵宗 元 ; born June 26, 1986 in Beijing ) is an Australian chess player .
He won the Australian individual championship in 2010 in North Sydney Council . He also won the Oceania Chess Championships twice: 2007 and 2011. He played for Australia in seven Chess Olympiads : 2000 , 2004 to 2010 , 2016 and 2018 .
At the 2007 World Chess Cup he failed in the first round to Magnus Carlsen , as well as to Yevgeny Tomaschewski at the 2011 World Chess Cup .
He played in the Chinese Team Championship in 2008 for Jiangsu, 2011 to 2014 and 2017 for Hebei.
In 2001 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 2008.
