Darryl Keith Johansen (born February 4, 1959 in Melbourne ) is an Australian chess player . Since 1982 he has been International Master of FIDE , in 1995 he became Grand Master .

Life

In 1977 he became Australian youth champion. He was able to win the individual championship in Australia six times (1984, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2002 and 2012), making him the record holder. He won the Australian Open (that is the open Australian championship) in 1983, 1991 (shared with Lembit Oll , Edvīns Ķeņģis and Tony Miles ) and 1997. He was the winner of the Australian Grand Prix in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996. Johansen has won multiple championships in the state of Victoria . In February 2015, he is eighth in the Australian Elo ranking.

He was Vice President and Relationship Officer for Chess Victoria, the Victoria State Chess Federation . He won the Steiner Medal , an award for the best Australian chess player, in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 2000 and 2003.
