Max Landsberg (born July 11, 1850 in Rawitsch , Province of Posen , † August 16, 1906 in Schmargendorf near Berlin) was a German sculptor .

Life

From 1872 to 1875 Max Landsberg studied on a scholarship at the Berlin Art Academy . In 1867 he received the Michael Beer Prize, which enabled him to study in Italy for a year.

After his return to Berlin, Landsberg dealt with anatomical drawings and the production of statuettes of farm animals such as cows, horses and sheep at the suggestion of the rector of the Berlin Agricultural University, Privy Councilor Hermann Settegast .

He did other work for Hans Friedenthal , the head of the Humanities Laboratory at Berlin University . Until around 1900 he worked in his studio in Luisenstrasse 21 in Berlin-Mitte .

The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium keeps around 150 plaster figurines in its depot, which were realized by Max Landsberg between 1881 and 1906. They belonged to the agricultural sciences department and were used for courses in animal anatomy and animal breeding.

His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee , in field U².
