Max "Mannix" Meili (born April 30, 1946 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss football player .

Career

At the age of nine he was active for the first time on TV Tössfeld (merged with TV Töss in 2000 ). He started playing football for two years at FC Tössfeld , where at the age of 16 he was already playing with the 2nd team in the 2nd division , which was still the fourth highest division in Switzerland at the time.

In the season 1964/65 he plays for FC Winterthur in the National League B . At the age of 19, he switched to the Grasshoppers for the 1965/66 season and then made his debut in the National League A , but it was never enough for him to get a regular place at GC.

In the 1967/68 season he moved back to his hometown for FC Winterthur . There he formed the striker together with Timo Konietzka in the first season and scored 15 goals for Winterthur. The club reached both the cup final and also mastered the direct return to the National League A, from which they had previously been relegated. Meili stayed with FCW for several years and accompanied the club through the club's last heyday. In Winterthur he worked alongside Konietzka with players such as Eigil Nielsen , Fritz Künzli , Herbert Dimmeler and Peter Risi . The coach was René Hüssy until 1970 and Willy Sommer after that . Meili, who is strong on both feet, made a name for himself in Winterthur with his flanks and was later used successfully in midfield. During his time in FCW, the association was able to twice for the Ligacup qualify Finals and 1975 again for the cup final. However, it was never enough for FCW to win the title, but Meili was the only player who has played for FCW in both previous cup finals.

After eight years with FCW, he left Winterthur and played for two seasons with FC Gossau in National League B from 1975 onwards. At that time, his former FCW teammate Manfred Odermatt was the coach there . After the end of his professional career at Gossau, he still played at FC Tössfeld and SC Veltheim , which at that time played in the 2nd division. As a player-coach he was still active at FC Seuzach and FC Phönix Seen .

Private life

Meili was born in Winterthur in 1946 and grew up in the Tössfeld district of Winterthur . In 1976 he married his wife Uschi. He has also worked professionally throughout his football career. He completed an apprenticeship as a salesman at the Hasler craftsman's shop and worked there for some time after his apprenticeship. He then moved to a television business as a salesman for three years and worked in the insurance industry for five years . In 1981 he finally moved to the marketing department of Haldengut and in 1996 took over the “Star Lädeli” in the porter's house on the brewery premises and doubled the turnover of the small business thanks to his popularity within a very short time. He retired in 2011.

He owes his nickname to the crime series Mannix , which he watched regularly on TV on Fridays from 1969.
