Maximilian Colonel

Maximilian Oberst (born October 6, 1849 in Regensburg , † November 18, 1925 in Halle ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

Oberst studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and was active in the Corps Isaria in 1869 . Approved in 1874 , he was an assistant doctor at the Augsburg Surgical Clinic from 1874 to 1877. In 1876 he received his doctorate in Erlangen . In 1877 he worked as an assistant in Halle under Richard von Volkmann .

In 1881 , Oberst completed his habilitation on the effects of antiseptic treatment after amputations . In 1884 he became an associate professor . In the three emperor's year he described the conduction anesthesia ( colonel block ), later named after him, on the finger. Until 1894 he was head of the surgical polyclinic at the University of Halle. From 1894 to 1920 he was director and chief physician of the Bergmannstrost hospital in Halle . In 1919 he was appointed full professor .
