Max Pécas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Max Edouard Louis Pécas (born April 25, 1925 in Lyon , † February 20, 2003 in Paris ) was a French theater director , film director , screenwriter and film producer , an all-round filmmaker of B-film and domestic erotic cinema, little known outside France .

Live and act

Pécas began his artistic career right after the end of the Second World War and gathered his first directorial spurs at the theater. However, he quickly decided to switch to the film business, where he initially gained experience from 1947 to 1959 as an assistant to less important directors such as Jacques Daroy and Alfred Rode .

At the end of 1959 he made his film directing debut and from the beginning of his career concentrated on police and crime films as well as on erotic and sometimes slippery subjects. These had initially dramatic, later more and more comedic orientations. His productions, which Pécas produced with his own production company Les Films du Griffon since 1962, initially had lurid titles such as Desire drives the man, Tender skin in black silk , Dogs in the night, Flotsam of love, Scourges of eroticism, The sex slaves of Schloss Porno, Greta - The stranger came naked, Sex drinks champagne, Daughters of sin, In the garden of lust - pourquoi? and The House of Fancy Wishes , and were aimed at a rather simple suburban audience.

Accordingly, the (German) critics liked to call Pécas works “stupid”, “voyeuristic”, “pompous”, “primitive”, “speculative”, “lying”, “bumbling”, “craftsmanship” and “dirty cinema” "" Poorly crafted ". The majority of these "poor sex films of inferior quality", produced between 1965 and 1974, were put into the picture in a flavourful way by veteran cameraman Robert Lefebvre and later became popular with interested fan circles, similar to the films by Pécas' American colleague Russ Meyer ( especially in France itself) quite cult character.

Since the late 1970s, Max Pécas' little soft sex films had more and more comedic elements and were now increasingly aimed at a teenage audience ( The little English girls, hot dogs in Ibiza , Who's spraying there on the Mediterranean ?, Bring the little French women ) and created with his work in their style counterparts to corresponding German productions of those years from the house of Karl Spiehs with Olivia Pascal in the lead role (e.g. Summer Night Fever , popcorn and raspberry ice cream , Cola, Candy, Chocolate , Sunshine Reggae in Ibiza ).

In 1996 Pécas withdrew completely from film production. Subsequently, in some cases even after his death, filmmakers rediscovered his colleague, who had long been underestimated for a long time, and produced documentaries about him with the titles I Am a Nymphomaniac: The Films of Max Pecas (1999), Mon curé chez les bidasses (2007) and Max Pécas, le roi du navet (2011). Max Pécas had a son named Michel and a daughter named Corinne. He died in 2003 of complications from bronchial carcinoma .
