Max Thurian
Max Thurian (born August 16, 1921 in Perly-Certoux , † August 15, 1996 in Geneva ) was a Swiss theologian .
The son of a customs officer studied at the autonomous theological faculty of the University of Geneva , where he received the Baccalauréat en théologie in 1945 . In 1946 he was ordained by the Église nationale protestante de Genève .
Max Thurian was one of the first seven brothers of the Communauté de Taizé and was considered the most important theologian of the ecumenical community. Together with Brother Roger (Schutz) he was a council observer at the Second Vatican Council . Thurian collaborated on the 1982 Lima Declaration . Thurian later converted to Catholicism and was ordained a priest in Naples in 1987 . From 1992 he was a member of the Papal International Theological Commission .
