Maxim Berghianu

Maxim Berghianu (born August 19, 1925 in Sighişoara , Mureş County ; † January 30, 2005 ) was a politician of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR).

Life

He joined the PCR in 1945 and became a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR in 1955 , of which he was a member until December 1989. In 1964 Berghianu, who was awarded the medal for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the PCR in May 1961, was appointed First Secretary of the PCR in Cluj County.

In December 1965 he was appointed as the successor to Roman Moldovan as chairman of the State Planning Commission (Comitetului de Stat al Planificarii) and retained this important function until his replacement by Manea Mănescu in October 1972. During this time he was from April 1969 to October 1972 also a member of the Defense Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania , one of the highest bodies in the Socialist Republic and the main body for national defense issues.

Subsequently, after a government reshuffle, from October 1972 to March 1978 he was Minister for the Supply of Technical Material and the Control and Management of Fixed Assets. After almost a year as the first secretary of the PCR in the Ilfov district , in January 1979 he became State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry with responsibility for the food industry. Berghianu was subsequently appointed Minister of Labor in March 1981, succeeding Emil Bobu , and held this office until December 22, 1989.

Berghianu, who was married to the actress Silvia Popovici (1933-1993), who died in 1993 , was also active as a poet and published in 1995 the volume of poetry Râul lui Heraclit and in 2000 the volume Univers incert .
