Maximilian Leichtlin
Maximilian Leichtlin (born February 17, 1831 Karlsruhe , † January 19, 1910 Baden-Baden ) was a Baden , German botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " Leichtlin ".
Life
Leichtlin spent his childhood in Karlsruhe, where he attended school and completed an apprenticeship in the botanical garden . After the apprenticeship, he began to travel the world. From 1854 he worked for 17 years in the nursery of Louis van Houtte in Ghent . In 1871 he moved to Baden-Baden, where he founded a private botanical garden in which he cultivated rare plants. He specialized mainly in onion plants . Later he began to cross different orchid species and described about 60 new hybrids .

Several types of plants were named after him. Examples are:
- Leichtlin prairie lily ( Camassia Leichtlinii ) from the genus of prairie lilies
- Lilium Leichtlinii from the genus of the lilies
