Lilium Leichtlinii Hooker ( Japaneseコ オ ニ ユ リ, Ko-oniyuri = small tiger lily) or Japanese lily is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Sinomartagon section . It is named after the botanist Maximilian Leichtlin .
description
Lilium Leichtlinii reaches a height of 50 cm to 200 cm. Around the dark, upright stem , the narrow and lanceolate leaves are freely distributed around the stem. The plant forms plenty of tubers.
The Japanese lily blooms from July to August with three to eight (rarely one or two) nodding flowers in a panicle . The six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) are bent back like in the Turkic League. The basic color of the flowers is yellow ( Leichtlinii ) or orange-red (var. Maximowiczii ) with dark purple spots. The anthers are brown. The seeds ripen in seed pods and germinate instantly - epigeously .
distribution
The nominate form of Lilium Leichtlinii is endemic to Japan , where it is native to all islands with the exception of Hokkaidō . Lilium Leichtlinii var. Maximowiczii is also found in China , Korea and Southeast Siberia. The Japanese lily grows mainly in the Niederaue.
Systematics
In addition to the nominotypic taxon, there is a variety :
- Lilium leichtlinii var. Maximowiczii (usually) Baker : It has the chromosome number 2n = 24.
Culture
The tuber of the plant is edible. The plant is grown sporadically in the garden. It needs fresh, loamy, humus rich soil and direct sunlight. L. Leichtlinii is one of the species from which the American Asiatic Hybrids were bred.
