Maximilian Reinitz (born April 29, 1872 in Vienna ; † September 25, 1935 there ) was an Austrian painter of the New Objectivity and Cubism .

Reinitz studied from May 14, 1898 to 1902 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , first in the nature class with Johann Caspar Herterich , then with Ludwig von Herterich , Carl von Marr and Peter von Halm .

After completing his studies, he visited Budapest , Dresden and Berlin , and went on study trips to Italy and Albania .

From 1914 Reinitz worked again in Vienna and in 1922 became an honorary member of the Hagenbund .

He was a supporter of modern currents in European painting, his works were held in the aesthetics of Cubism and the New Objectivity .

His works shown at the spring exhibition in 1922 aroused outrage from conservative critics. In order to avoid the conflicts, Reinitz lived a secluded life, far from the Viennese painter's milieu.

It was not until many years after his death that his works were discovered and recognized.
