Maximilian Sciandri (born February 15, 1967 in Derby ) is a former Italian - British cyclist .

Career

Sciandria is the son of an Italian father and a British mother and was an Italian citizen until he was 29 years old. Since he saw no chance to be considered for the Italian team at World Championships and Olympic Games, he adopted British nationality in 1996 and was nominated for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. There he succeeded in winning the bronze medal in the individual road competition.

Sciandri was a professional from 1989 to May 20, 2004 and was most recently under contract with Team CSC .
