Maxïmo Park [ mɑkˈsi: moʊ ˈpɑ: k ] is a British indie rock band . It was founded in 2003 in the northern English city of Newcastle .
Band history
Career start
The band's name is derived from the Máximo Gómez Park , a meeting place for exiled Cubans in Little Havana , Miami, Florida. The singer Paul Smith came as the last member to after the former girlfriend of drummer Tom English had seen him when he was in a bar with his instrumental band Me & the Twins , Wonders Stevie Superstition played.
Maxïmo Park released their first 7 "single on vinyl in March 2004 with two self-recorded songs ( Graffiti and Going Missing ). After a few appearances, Steve Beckett from Warp Records became aware of the group and signed them.
A certain trigger
After the debut single The Coast Is Always Changing , which appeared in 2004, the second single, Apply Some Pressure , was released in February 2005 and was instantly among the 20 best singles in the British charts . They were booked for the Rock-am-Ring Festival before their album was even released . Her debut album, A Certain Trigger , was also released in 2005 and received rave reviews from critics. Three more songs from the album were released as singles during the year. Apply Some Pressure was re-released in October 2005.
Our Earthly Pleasures
On March 30, 2007, the second album Our Earthly Pleasures was released . The first single from this album was Our Velocity and was released on March 16. Books from Boxes and Girls Who Play Guitars were later decoupled. Before that, Missing Songs , a collection of B-sides and demos, was released.
Quicken the heart
In spring 2009 Maxïmo Park came to Germany for a few club concerts and presented new songs from their next album for the first time. The third long player was released on May 8, 2009 under the name Quicken the Heart . The album was also released in a special edition with an accompanying concert DVD. In the first week Quicken the Heart reached number 13 on the German album charts. The first single The Kids Are Sick Again was released on May 1st and entered the German single charts at number 72.
As a result of the release, Maxïmo Park had their album Quicken the Heart remixed by artists from the region around their hometown Newcastle. The album called Quicken the Heart - Remixed was released on July 2, 2010 on the band's website as a free download.
The National Health
In February 2011, the band announced that they are currently working on new studio recordings. On June 8, 2012, the album The National Health was released.
Too Much Information
On November 18, 2013 the band announced the release of their fifth album Too Much Information and dated it on February 3, 2014, and January 31, 2014 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. On the same day the band released the first single of the new album called Brain Cells and offered it for free download on their website, on December 9, 2013 the video premiere of the second single Leave This Island followed , on January 23, 2014 the lyric video for the single Lydia, the Ink Will Never Dry . Furthermore, the band announced a tour that, besides Europe, also includes Asia and some festival appearances, such as Rock am Ring 2014 . The album reached seventh place in the UK album charts, the highest ranking after Quicken the Heart .
