Maxwell Tylden Masters
Maxwell Tylden Masters (born April 15, 1833 in Canterbury , † May 30, 1907 in Ealing , Middlesex ) was an English doctor and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Mast. "
Live and act
He graduated from King's College London and received his doctorate from St Andrews University Medical School in 1862 . In 1858 he married Ellen Tress. The couple had four children. From 1855 to 1868 he had a research position as an assistant in botany at the University Hospital Center of St. George. At the same time he worked as a city doctor from 1856. In 1870 he was accepted into the Royal Society . He was also a member of the Linnaeus Society of London . In 1888 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences .
He became known as the author of numerous scientific papers such as Vegetable Teratology (1869). He was editor of the Gardeners' Chronicle from 1865 to 1907 . In his time he was considered to be the most important specialist in the passion flower family (Passifloraceae).
Taxa named after Masters
The genus Mastersia Benth. from the legume family (Fabaceae) was named after him and after John White Masters . The larch species Larix mastersiana and the pitcher plant hybrid Nepenthes × mastersiana are named after Maxwell Tylden Masters , as is the plant genus Mastersiella Gilg-Ben. from the family of the Restionaceae and Maxwellia Baill. from the Mallow family (Malvaceae).
