McGuinness Flint was an English folk and pop group that enjoyed success in the 1970s.
Band history
After the breakup of Manfred Mann's band in 1969, Tom McGuinness formed the band McGuinness Flint with Hughie Flint , formerly with John Mayalls Bluesbreakers , singer Dennis Coulson and the two musicians Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle.
In 1970 and 1971, When I'm Dead and Gone and Malt and Barley Blues were two international bestsellers, both written by Gallagher and Lyle. Then the two left the band, but Dixie Dean came.
As a quartet , the group recorded the LP Lo and Behold in 1972 and only performed songs by Bob Dylan .
Singer Coulsen had already released the LP Dennis Coulsen in 1973 , for which Gallagher and Lyle contributed five songs. The two were now a duo who successfully wrote songs for others, but also for themselves. In 1976 Gallagher & Lyle each had a top 10 hit in England with I Wanna Stay with You and Heart on My Sleeve .
McGuinness and Flint founded the blues band in 1979 with Paul Jones , Dave Kelly and Gary Fletcher , which is still active today - but now without Flint.
