Second month of the Peret period

Mecher (also Macher, Amcher ; Greek Mechir ; Coptic Meschir ; Arabic  Amschir ) was the ancient Egyptian name of the second peret month in the Egyptian calendar and represented the coldest season from early December to early January .

Alan Gardiner as well as Richard-Anthony Parker suspect that the month Rekeh-wer changed the year form in the course of the calendar history, which is why Rekeh-wer shifted from the seventh to the sixth month from the 19th dynasty in the New Kingdom and was renamed Mecher.

The reason for this was the link between Sopdet and the heliacal rise of Sirius , which lasted until the end of the second millennium BC. Chr. Slowly migrated from the beginning of June to the beginning of July and was ultimately jointly responsible for the shifting of the months.
