Rolf Krauss
Rolf Krauss (born April 30, 1954 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a former German wrestler . He was European flyweight champion in the Greco-Roman style.
Career
Rolf Krauss grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein and started doing gymnastics as a child . In 1968 he was discovered for wrestling and shaped into a world class athlete by trainer Walter Gehring. In the years 1972 to 1974 he was German junior champion three times in a row and in 1973 for the first time at a European championship for seniors, which took place in Helsinki at the time . In 1974 he was in the Finnish Haparanda junior European champion in flyweight, Greco-Roman. Style, the style he exclusively wrestled.
In 1975 he made fourore for the first time when he was in a superior manner European flyweight champion in Ludwigshafen. He also defeated the Soviet representative Valeri Arutjunow safely on points.
At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Krauss also started in the flyweight division and came in fourth after three victories and defeats against Vitaly Konstantinov from the Soviet Union and Nicu Gângă from Romania .
In 1977 Krauss tried his hand at the next higher weight class, the bantamweight, in order to avoid the constant, exhausting workout of several kilos before each competition, but had to realize that he had no chance in the bantamweight. This shows a 13th place at the European championship in Bursa and a 7th place at the world championship in Gothenburg . That was not enough for the demands of Rolf Krauss.
In the following years so he competed in international championships again at flyweight and reached at the European Championships 1978 in Oslo the fourth place in the 1978 World Cup in Mexico City the 6th Place and in the World Cup in 1979 in San Diego 5th place . At the 1980 European Championships in Prievidza , Krauss was about to win his second title. A narrow defeat against the Soviet athlete Wachtang Blagidze was ultimately decisive for the fact that he was "only" vice European champion.
At the 1980 Olympic Games Krauss could not attend because of the boycott of these Games by the Federal Republic of Germany. He would certainly have had a good chance of winning a medal.
After 1982, Rolf Krauss did not start at international championships, but was available to his home club, KSG Ludwigshafen, for a few years for team fights in the German wrestling league. He was a trained heating technician who trained as a chemical technician.
