Mechthild Rawert (born November 3, 1957 in Coesfeld ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

Mechthild Rawert completed a degree in social education from 1976 to 1980 at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences North Rhine-Westphalia in Münster , which she graduated with a degree in social education (FH). After completing the year of recognition in Berlin , she graduated as a state-recognized social pedagogue in 1982. As early as 1981 she began studying adult education at the Free University of Berlin , which she finished in 1986 as a qualified teacher . After having worked as a pedagogical assistant in the "Haus am Rupenhorn" in Berlin from 1985, Mechthild Rawert became managing director of the social service for Catholic women in Berlin in 1986 . In 1991 she moved to BBJ Consult and in 1996 to the “Zukunft im zentrum” service company for employment and qualification consulting. From March 2004 to October 2005 she was the central women's representative at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Mechthild Rawert belongs to the Roman Catholic Church .

Political party

Mechthild Rawert joined the SPD in 1987. She is a member of the state executive committee of the SPD in Berlin.

Mechthild Rawert was also state chairwoman of the working group of social democratic women in Berlin from 2000 to 2007 .

MPs

From 2005 to 2017 she was a member of the German Bundestag for the first time and was spokeswoman for the Berlin regional group in the SPD parliamentary group . In the Bundestag she was a member of the Health Committee . From 2014 she was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg for the German Bundestag and a deputy member of the Committee on Food and Agriculture .

In 2005 , Mechthild Rawert was elected to the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Berlin-Tempelhof - Schöneberg with 34.2% of the first votes . In the 2009 and 2013 federal elections , she entered the Bundestag via the SPD's Berlin state list.

In the 2017 Bundestag election , she was again unable to assert herself in her constituency and due to the poor result of the SPD, her place on the list was not enough this time, so she left the Bundestag.

On May 26, 2020, she replaced MEP Eva Högl, who was elected as the defense commissioner of the German Bundestag , and thus returned as a member of the Bundestag.
