Megan Elizabeth McKenna (born September 26, 1992 in Barking ) is a British singer-songwriter , television personality and businesswoman. After she was seen in Ex on the Beach (2015-2016), among others, she gained greater attention in 2016 through her participation in the British Celebrity Big Brother . In 2019 she won the music talent show The X Factor: Celebrity and was signed by Syco Music.

Private life

McKenna was born on September 26, 1992 in Barking , London. In her autobiography Mouthy , she claims to have experienced bullying in school as a child . In response to their desire to attend Arts Education School and study musicals there, the family later moved to Chiswick .

In 2016, McKenna announced that she had celiac disease . She was dating Pete Wicks , whom she met at The Only Way Is Essex , from March 2016 . The couple announced their split in March 2017. She also dated Love Island candidate Mike Thalassitis for a few months in 2018 .

In October 2019, McKenna stated in an interview with Beth Neil that she had let her lip fillers dissolve, stopped drinking alcohol, and sought therapy.

Career

2009–2010: Britain's Got Talent and LOLA

In 2009 McKenna took part in the British version of Das Supertalent together with Demi Bennett under the name Harmony as a music duo and reached the semifinals there. She also took part in The Only Way Is Essex show in 2010, which featured applying for a spot in the girl band LOLA . As part of this group, she then appeared on the show T4 Stars of 2010 .

2014–2017: Ex on the Beach , Celebrity Big Brother and The Only Way Is Essex

She took part in both 2014 and 2015 in the British singing casting show The X Factor , but dropped out both times during the bootcamp phase. In 2015 she was seen on Ex on the Beach and the following year she moved to the Celebrity Big Brother house in the UK. There she was criticized and warned, among other things, for her aggressive and unfriendly behavior towards her flatmates. As a result, she was the fourth candidate to leave the house after receiving the fewest audience votes. She also returned to Ex on the Beach in 2016 , where she was the ex-girlfriend of Jordan Davies . In March 2016, she also became a permanent fixture on the cast of The Only Way Is Essex .

McKenna launched her own restaurant called MCK Grill in Woodford Green in May 2017 . Also in 2017 she released a range of hair extension parts in collaboration with Easilocks. McKenna made her last appearance on The Only Way Is Essex on October 25, 2017, where she announced that she wanted to concentrate on her music career.

2017–2019: There's Something About Megan , Mouthy, and Story of Me

In 2017 McKenna started her own reality show called There's Something About Megan . The show covered her trip to Nashville to pursue a country music career, and included three episodes that aired on ITVBe . After the last episode aired, McKenna released her debut EP, officially launching her music career. The two songs High Heeled Shoes and Far Cry From Love topped the iTunes charts in Great Britain within 24 hours of their release . On the official UK charts , High Heeled Shoes reached 43rd place and Far Cry From Love landed at 53rd.

In December 2017, McKenna embarked on her first tour as the main act promoting high heeled shoes . The tour included four concerts. In July 2018 she was also the support act for Michael Bublé during a concert on his British Summer Time Tour in Hyde Park, London .

On July 26, 2018, she published her first autobiography Mouthy , which was created in collaboration with John Blake. The book made it to the top of the Sunday Times bestseller list in August 2018, when she launched her first own fashion collection, Studio Mouthy . She also launched her own make-up brand Mouthy Cosmetics . In the same month McKenna took part in the first season of Celebs on the Farm , where she was the second to leave the show and was seventh.

Mckenna released her debut album, Story of Me , on December 7th, 2018. The album entered the UK country charts at number 4. From May to September 2019 she was on the Story of Me Tour with which she performed in many cities in the United Kingdom. In February 2019, she also took part in the sixth season of the reality show Celebs Go Dating on E4.

2019: The X Factor: Celebrity

From October to November 2019, McKenna was also a candidate for the celebrity season of The X Factor on ITV. In her audition, she sang her own song Everything but You , which can also be found on her debut album. On November 30th, she won the show in the finals after receiving 46.3% of the audience votes. This also won her a record deal with Syco Music, Simon Cowell's record company .

2020: Upcoming second studio album

McKenna began working on her second solo album in February 2020, and later that month she announced that she would join Lionel Richie at his concerts in the UK as part of his Hello Tour .
