Mehmet Emin Yurdakul

Mehmet Emin Yurdakul (* 1869 in İstanbul ; † January 14, 1944 there ) was a Turkish poet and one of the protagonists of the "National Poetry" trend.

Life

After graduating from secondary school, Yurdakul worked in the customs administration ( Rüsumat Evrak Müdürlüğü ) from 1892 to 1907 . He was governor of the Hejaz in 1909 , in Sivas in 1910 and in Erzurum in 1911 . Mehmet Emin Yurdakul was a member of the Ottoman Parliament for the Mosul Province. After the founding of the republic in 1923 he was a member of the Karahisar Province, and later the Urfa and Istanbul provinces .

Yurdakul published his first poem Cenge giderken ("On the way to war") in 1897. His poems are characterized by nationalism and simple language. In his poems the author deals with public concerns and socially epic events. The texts often have an instructive language. In 1915 Friedrich Schrader reported in the Vossische Zeitung about the first public reading of the poem “Ai Turk, Ujan!” (Auf Turk, Awake!) In Istanbul.

Yurdakul information was the Freemasonry in Turkey , according to Masonic .

Mehmet Emin Yurdakul is buried in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery in İstanbul.
