Milestone (Theißen North, half mile)

Prussian half milestone near Theißen

The half mile stone near Theißen is a small monument in the city of Zeitz in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

On the more than 200 kilometers long Prussian Chaussee from Berlin via Halle (Saale) to Giebelroth , which was built in the 1820s, there are still milestones in various places , but in some cases in poor condition. The stone is one of three milestones in the hallway of the village. The bell-shaped distance indicator made of red sandstone is located on the northeast side of the federal road 91 , which here, between Weißenfels and Zeitz, is identical to the old road. The stone is one meter high.

Because the stones are no longer in the historically correct order, Theißen now has all three types, namely a quarter milestone southeast of the village (small bell), a half milestone northwest (large bell) and a full milestone also northwest of the village (obelisk), both only a little more than 100 meters apart, but on different sides of the street. Presumably, the half and quarter milestones are still in the correct locations and were only shifted slightly, whereas it was proven that the whole milestones were later moved into a new system that no longer shows Berlin, but the market of Weißenfels as the zero point of the street. Therefore, all full mile obelisks are 2.8 kilometers crazy.

The milestone, 600 meters from the exit towards Deuben, is a listed building and is registered as a monument in the monument register with registration number 094 66133 . Half a Prussian mile is equal to 3.76 kilometers.
