Meindorf is a district of the city of Sankt Augustin in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district with around 2900 inhabitants. Mayor of the district is Peter Kespohl ( SPD ).

location

Meindorf lies on a hill above the course of the Sieg , which flows into the Rhine about four kilometers to the west .

history

Meindorf was probably created during the Frankish conquests of the Rhineland in the 5th to 8th centuries. Meindorf is first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. Apparently there was once a castle in Meindorf, the remains of which were found at the end of the 19th century. A noble family "von Meindorf" is also documented.

In the War of the First Coalition , the French general Colaud began on June 1, 1796 a division of Austrian under the resistance forces under General Kienmeier about the victory and captured the fords in my village and Menden . After the French brought more and more cavalry over the victory, they pushed the Austrian troops back to Hangelar . At Niederpleis they rallied again with the reserve for a counter-offensive, but finally had to give way to the superior force and were pushed back to the heights behind Hennef .

The ford of Meindorf (popularly known as the “cow path”) in its current state

At the beginning of the 19th century, Meindorf was incorporated into the Menden mayor's office (from 1927 Menden office ) as part of the Prussian reorganization in the Rhineland . In the course of the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Bonn Law ), Meindorf was incorporated into the newly founded municipality and today's city of Sankt Augustin on August 1, 1969.
