Hans Fröhlich (geodesist)

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Fröhlich

Hans Fröhlich (born June 25, 1947 in Plettenberg ; † February 17, 2016 ) was a German geodesist and university professor .

Life and work

Hans Fröhlich studied geodesy at the University of Bonn from 1968 to 1972 , after having worked as a measuring assistant during his school days. He then worked as an employee and assistant at the Institute for Theoretical Geodesy, of which Helmut Wolf was director, and in 1974 became Dr.-Ing. PhD. In 1976 he passed the Great State Examination and started as a department head for the trigonometric field service in the state surveying office of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1985 he followed the call of the University of Essen to the professorship of Practical Geodesy and in 2002 the call of the Bochum University of Applied Sciences to the professorship of land surveying . He retired in 2012 and lived in Sankt Augustin - Meindorf .

His publications deal with topics such as adjustment calculations , satellite geodesy or the evaluation of levels . Its surveying handgrips are intended as an aid for use in everyday surveying .

Hans Fröhlich dealt intensively with the history of land surveying, on which he published several publications. He published three volumes on the reconnaissance trips that Captain Hans Bendemann carried out at the end of the 19th century to explore the TP field of the first order in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia . Other publications deal more entertainingly with observation towers in the Sauerland and Siegerland or the national surveying on the beer mat . In the role of Captain Bendemann, he also appeared in front of an audience to explain the history of land surveying.
