The play begins in Pittsburgh , where Justin, the 29-year-old heir to a department store during the turbulent Christmas season, suffers from never having fulfilled the dreams of his life. Together with his grandfather Kurt he remembers the love of his life: the young Salzburg exchange student Elisabeth, with whom he once exchanged a "Silent Night" music box as a present. Justin decides to go looking for Elisabeth spontaneously. Elisabeth works in her hometown as a festival officer at a renowned festival and feels torn between her own ambitions to modernize the program and meet the expectations of the established society around her. When Justin enters the Salzburg stage, he has to realize that Elisabeth is in a relationship with the concert manager Hans. At the same time it turns out that the previous director of the children's choir has given up his job. Out of necessity, Elisabeth and Hans Justin engage in this task without knowing who he is. Justin's unconventional methods lead to the children's choir falling apart. At the same time the appearance at the baroness, the chairwoman of the board of trustees of the festival, who is also Elisabeth's mother Now Elisabeth and Justin have to found a new choir. They meet young people on the fringes of society who are difficult to integrate. Everything is at stake for Elisabeth and Justin, and the children have an unexpected opportunity. Conflicts are inevitable and everything gets out of hand at the President of the Board of Trustees' Christmas reception.
