Mel Odom

Melvin Lewis Odom, III (* 16th December 1957 in California ) is an American science fiction - and fantasy - writer .

biography

Odom graduated from Byng High School in Byng, Oklahoma in May 1976 and later graduated from East Central University in Ada , Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in English. He teaches undergraduate courses at Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Professional Writing Program at the University of Oklahoma . He lives in Moore , Oklahoma with his wife and five children. In 1998 he started playing an AD&D campaign with the two oldest children.

Career

Odom sold his first book in January 1988 and wrote dozens more books over the next decade. He wrote two novels as part of the fictional universe of the FREELancers for TSR and their Top Secret RPG. A first novel followed in 1998, The Lost Library of Cormanthyr as part of the Forgotten Realms , and his trilogy Threat from the Sea played in the same world .

Odom has written dozens of novels in a variety of fields - action adventure, computer game strategy guides, fantasy, horror, teen novels, film adaptations, science fiction, and comics. He became known through his series The Rover and Left Behind Apocalypse . He wrote novels for the television series Roswell , Sabrina - Totally Verhext! and Buffy the Vampire Slayer .

One of his best known fantasy novels is The Rover (2001), which won an Alex Award in 2002 . This award is given by the American Library Association to adult novels that also appeal to young readers. Since then, three sequels have been released from this High Fantasy series: Destruction of the Books (2004), Lord of the Libraries (2005) and The Quest for the Trilogy (2007).

He is known to have written under several aliases, including Jordan Gray. Odom has also written several novels for The Mafia Killer , an action-adventure series, under the pseudonym for Don Pendleton .

On February 7th, 2015 it was announced that Odom would write the new companion novel for the upcoming game Shadowrun: Hong Kong . The novel should appear at the same time as the game in December 2015. Shadowrun: Hong Kong is the third crowdfunding game set in the Shadowrun universe of the game development studio Harebrained Schemes .
