Mel Rey Uy

Mel Rey Mingoa Uy (born January 6, 1968 in San Agustin , Romblon Province , Philippines ) is a Filipino clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Lucena .

Life

Mel Rey Uy first studied philosophy at the San Pius X Academy in Roxas City . This was followed by a degree in theology at the University-de-Santo-Tomas in Manila, where he later also obtained a master's degree in philosophy.

Uy received on 24 May 1994, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

In the following years he was first pastor at the San Lorenzo seminar in Romblon (1995/1996) and director of the Holy Rosary Academy in San Agustin, Romblon (1995-2000), then teacher at the San Lorenzo seminar and Priest of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Congregation in Carmen, San Agustin (1998–2004). This was followed by a priesthood at the St. Antonio de Padua parish in Agnipa, Romblon (2004–2009) and from 2010 he was diocesan treasurer and director of the Diocesan Pastoral Secretariat .

On July 29, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Lucena. Mel Rey Uy is the successor in office of Emilio Marquez , whose age-related resignation the Pope accepted on the same day.
